We're pushing FIFTY!
And what an amazing journey it's been. Pushcart Players was founded in 1974 by Ruth Fost, Carole Wechter, and Gretchen Johnson. All three were theater artists, educators, and parents who identified the need for quality theater for young people where they are -- in their schools.
Pushcart's earliest visits would be the first exposure to live theater for most of the children. Knowing this, the cofounders approached their audiences with respect, created material that would inform, inspire and challenge, and engaged leading artists and teachers to share the craft.
Pushcart continues to introduce the benefits and joy of participating in live theater to young learners nationwide. Outreach is a primary focus, securing contributed dollars to bring quality arts programming to under-resourced communities.
From the little red school house to the White House, Pushcart brings the theater to our audiences, opening pathways for discovery, laughter, reflection, and action.
